Woodland Retreat Near Both Chicago and Starved Rock

We came up from Little Rock for a week of rest, and I already miss this cabin. Miriam and Kenneth, thank you. This place is absolutely a gem! But that is not even what I cannot shake. It felt like home more than home does, and that says something about this cabin.<br/>Out back, the apple and pear trees stopped me cold. I grew up around orchards in California’s Central Valley, and standing under those trees I was a kid again. Deer in the yard, coffee on the porch swing, string lights glowing on the deck at night-all that nature felt like home. This is the exact cabin I want built in the Ozarks.<br/>We came to slow down, and we actually did. Peaceful mornings, Soft evenings in the hot tub. Every inch feels cared for. I did not know I needed this—because we have not stopped thinking about it since.<br/>Miriam and Kenneth, thank you again for your hospitality and for letting us spend time in your home. My dog Shockley and I have stayed at the deer run quarters quite a few times. It never disappoints!! It's private, pretty, serene, clean and has great amenities. We love the back deck, gas grill, the fire pits and the hot tub especially! The hosts are fantastic: pleasant, friendly, helpful. Love that it's private yet close to town!!

We enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner with our scattered family at Deer Run Lodge. Having two refrigerators and ovens was handy! The coffee bar saw some heavy usage. There is plenty of room for several activities to go on at once without bothering each other. The Pickleball court was often busy. The fire ring was going 2 days cooking hot dogs and marshmallows. We found the single level guest house to be just the thing for one family member who was on crutches following hip surgery. The hot tub, arcade game, table games, and TV were used by many. We never heard “I’m bored!” from anyone during our stay. And yes, we did get to see several deer and fawns at Deer Run Lodge.

Perfect accomodations for a group to have a fun, relaxing weekend getaway!<br/>Excellent space with more room than we knew what to do with and plenty of comfortable beds for a big group.<br/>Everything was clean and ready for us on arrival and we were able to make easy use of the fire pit, hot tub, and the truly incredible pickleball court all day.
